Allahyarham Prof. Dr. Shahren was the Premier-appointed educationist for Research & Development for the nascent hydrogen and aerospace industries in Sarawak, criss-crossing the world from London to Beijing to land partnerships for i-CATS University College. He was one of the front liners of the transformation agenda for Sarawak PCDS 2030, and gave his life for the cause.

Prior to his death he has served the state of Sarawak for more than 20 years in education, as a Dean at UNIMAS and as the Director of the Institute of Borneo Studies, among various other directorial and advisory roles to prominent institutions like Masjid Islam Sarawak, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, and Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak.

In the years he spent completing his Masters and PhD at Syracuse University in New York, he was President of the Malaysian Students Association and was also the Vice President of the Muslim Students Association of Central New York.

This biography is the culmination of years of research, reflection, and collective remembrance. It draws upon the recollections and contributions of more than one hundred individuals whose lives intersected with Prof. Shahren’s—including senior government officials, dignitaries, international colleagues, former students, friends, and family members. Together, their voices paint a portrait of a man whose influence extended far beyond the institutions he served, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire those who knew him and those who follow in his footsteps.
